The Corona Chronicles are a loose collection of photo series, reflecting everyday life during the COV19 pandemia in 2020.

“Isolation” deals with the psychological impact of the quarantine. After China, the virus hit Europe and the USA in February 2020, followed by the rest of the world. Within a few weeks, all Europe went on lockdown in various nuances.

The psychologic impact on the masses of quarantined people was (and while this lines are written, still is) tremendous. It brought up the best and the worst in the affected societies at the same moment. From an explosion of creativity, tsunami waves of empathy and solidarity amongst each other to greedy panic purchases in supermarkets (remember the toilet paper crisis?) and organized fake news campaigns to destabilize democratic systems and spread fear amongst people.

And as a result of the harsh shutdown of all non system relevant businesses and industries, an economic crisis of still unknown scale hit the world’s economies like an apocalyptic meteorite.

Nobody would have imagined such things to happen just a few weeks ago. Nobody was prepared. We are all still looking for a way to cope with the impact of this civilizational and economic clash. In a state of nightmare we are watching, how people in Italy and New York were not able to bury their dead anymore. Shut borders, curfews, shortages of life saving protection wear and in some countries food shortages, mass unemployment and a worldwide research run for a medication and immunisation.

One day we will win over this pandemic. For now, we still have to hold on. And we are just at the beginning to understand the full impact on us, our lifes and the world in general.

The first series of “Corona Chronicles” – “Isolation” – tries to put all these emotions and impressions affecting the single individual. Locked in at home while the apocalypse is happening right out on the streets.
